據近日舉行的北京市文物工作會議介紹，北京將加大歷史文化遺產保護力度，加強老城整體保護，恢復“一軸一線”魅力景觀。

北京將恢復（restore）“一軸一線”魅力景觀（landscape），加強老城整體保護（strengthen the integrated conservation of its old town），加快實施故宮（Palace Museum）、天壇（Temple of Heaven）、鐘鼓樓（Bell and Drum Towers）等地區傳統風貌（traditional looks）保護（conservation），加強“三山五園”（"Three Hills and Five Gardens"）歷史文化景區（historical scenery）保護利用，編制實施長城文化帶（Great Wall culture belt）、西山文化帶（Western Hills culture belt）和運河文化帶（Grand Canal culture belt）保護利用（utilization）規劃。
北京市市長蔡奇近日就北京城市中軸線（Central Axis）保護和申遺工作（application for world heritage）進行調研（inspection and study）。他表示，要統籌保護好北京豐富的歷史文化遺產（rich historical and cultural heritage），進一步提升全國文化中心（national cultural center）建設水平。
作爲北京老城主體，東城區未來將打造南鑼鼓巷、東四三條至八條等6片傳統文化精華區（traditional culture areas），到2020年，歷史文化街區（historical and cultural blocks）整體修繕（renovate）更新整治率將達到80%；西城區將力爭實現一批重大文物建築特別是納入文物（cultural relics）登記的會館（guild halls）和名人故居（former residences of celebrities）騰退（vacate）亮相。
國家文物局局長劉玉珠表示，國家文物局將在北京城市副中心（sub-center）建設、冬奧會文物保護、文物保護項目（cultural heritage protection projects）立項等方面進一步加大支持力度。
