Beijing Institute of Technology(BIT) is a state hey university，and an open，interNational and research-oriented university of science，engineering and humanities with science and engineering as the focus. It was founded in Yan'an in 1940 asYanan Academy of Natural Science, It is oneof the first universities to run a graduate school and receive privileged fund from the central government in"the 7th，8th and 9th Five Year Plan.8th is also one of the state Project 211" universities receiving preferential support from the state.

北京理工大學是“理工爲主，工理文協調發展”的全國重點大學。其前身是1940年創辦的延安自然科學院，是我國首批頒佈的全國重點大學，是全國首批建立研究生院的高校是“一七五 八五”和“九五”期間國家重點投資建設的學校，也是國家首批“211工程”建設的高校。

In 2000，BIT was listed in"Plan 985"，which gives priority for developmenf by Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense(COSTI ND) Ministry of Education and BeijingMunicipal Government.

2000年以國防科工委、教育部、北京市人民政府重點共建的形式進入國家高水平大學建設的“985工程”行列;

學校佔地面積136.92萬平方米，另有北京良鄉校區建設用地152.83萬平方米、珠海校區建設用地333萬平方米。學校校舍建築面積91. 24萬平方米，校圖書館藏書217萬冊。

There are over 3500 faculty and staff，including 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)and 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering(CAE)，1431 full and associate professors(including researchers and senior engineers)，257 supervisors of doctorate programs 17 experts with outstanding contributions at the national level，5 special professors of“Cheungkong Scholars Program”and 251 recipients of special subsidies from the central government.

學校現有教職工3500名，其中中國科學院院士4名、中國工程院院士10名，教授、副教授(含研究員、高級工程師)1431名，博士生導師257名，國家有突出貢獻中青年專家11名，長江學者獎勵計劃”特聘教授6名，享受政府津貼專家251名。

Each year BIT undertakes over I 000 research projects，the funding for scientific research at BIT has been increasing annually at large scale. Now BIT has 3 State Key Labs，4 Labs for State Key Discipline，1 open Lab of State Education Ministry，5 Key Labs of Beijing present.

學校每年承擔科研項目超過1000項，科研經費每年都有大幅度增長，有3個國家級重點實驗室、9個國家重點學科、專業實驗室、一個教育部開放實驗室、5個北京市重點實驗室。

the university comprises 13 schools and 41 departments and 43 institutes(research centers) one of the first universities authorized by the State Council to grant doctorate and master degrees，BIT has 11 state key disciplines and 25 key disciplines at the ministry level. The university now has 11 doctorate programs in first-level disciplines，23 master programs in first-level disciplines，14 post-doctor stations，61 doctorate program disciplines，144 master program disciplines and 60 undergraduate majors.

學校設有13個學院，41個系，43個研究所(中心)。作爲國務院首批批准授予博士、碩士學位的單位，學校擁有11個國家重點學科、25個部級重點學科;11個博士學位一級學科授權點，23個博士學位授權學科專業。

In 2006，BIT has a total enrolment of over 36533，including 13627 in 4 year undergraduate programs，1 479 in 2 year undergraduate programs，5 088 postgraduate students for bachelor's degree，2104 postgraduate students for doctor's degree 364 overseas students and country.

全校各類在校學生36533個碩士學位一級學科授權點，14個博士後流動站，61個博士學位授權學科專業，144個碩士學位學科專業及60個本科專業。

BIT attaches great importance to the communication and cooperation domestitally and internationally and has established relationship with more than 90 universities in 29 countries and districts.

2006年全校各類在校學生36533人，其中本科生13627人，，專科生1479人，碩士生5088人人、博士生2104人、留學生364人、遠程教育和繼續教育學生近13 871人。60多年來爲國家培養了125156名各類高層次人才。學校重視開展國內和國際交流與合作，與29個國家和地區的90餘所高校建立了校際合作關係。

爲了加強師資力量，學校在國內聘請了174名特聘教授、38名客座教授、6名榮譽教授，在國外聘請了45名特聘教授和12名榮譽教授。學校按照建設高水平研究型大學的目標，面向現代化，面向世界，面向未來”，堅持對外開放，深化改革，與時俱進。

歷史變遷

In 1939，Yan'an Academy of Natural Science，the predecessor of BIT was founded.

1939年北京理工大學的前身—延安自然科學院成立。

In January 1946，Yan'an Academy of Natural Science was renamed Jin-Cha-Ji Remote Area Industrial College.

1945年1月延安自然科學院改名爲晉察冀邊區工業專門學校。

In October 1948，the Engineering College of North-China University was founded on the basis of the merging of Jin-Cha-Ji Remote Area Industrial College and the Engineering College of Northern University.

1948年10月晉察冀邊區工業專門學校與北方大學工學院合併，成立華北大學工學院。

In August 1949，the Engineering College of North-China University moved to Beijing.

1949年8月華北大學工學院遷人北京。

On November 18，1951，Engineering College of North-China University was renamed Beijing Institute ofTechnology(BIT).

1951年11月18日華北大學工學院改名爲北京工業學院。

In 1959，BiT was designated as one of the sixteen key universities in China bythe central government.

1959年中央政府批准北京工業學院爲全國首批16所重點院校之一。

In 1988，the institution changed its Chinese name from"Institute" to"University" with the English name remaining unchanged.

1988年4月2日北京工業學院更名爲北京理工大學。

In December 1995，BIT was ratified by the central government as one of the "Project 211" universities.

1995年12月北京理工大學被批准爲“211工程”大學之一。
