《摩登家庭》S3E12：“這就對了”英語怎麼說？

1. that's the spirit

“that's the spirit”這句話用於表示贊同或鼓勵，意思是“這就對了，就應該這樣”。

"Come on, we can win this game." "That's the spirit."

“加把勁，我們能贏這場比賽。”“這就對了。”

“這就對了”還可以說that's it：

You switch the computer on at the back. That's it.

你把計算機後面的開關打開。對，就這樣。

或者說all right，表示“太棒了，好”。

"Did you hear I hit that creep who'd been pestering me?" "All right!"

“你聽說了嗎，我把那個老是糾纏我的討厭鬼給揍了。”“打得好！”

2. nip sth in the bud

△曼尼對傑說克萊爾老是幫盧克做手工，所以自己老是比不過盧克。

nip有“夾；捏；剪斷”的意思，很多時候漢語和英語總有相似的表達，比如nip sth in the bud就可以理解爲扼殺在萌芽中，也形容防患於未然。

It's important to nip this kind of bullying in the bud.

重要的是及早制止這種欺凌弱小的行爲。

3. heads-up

△傑打電話告訴克萊爾不許幫忙。

heads-up其實就有warning的意思，表示“小心，注意”。

也表示就有關形勢（或計劃）發展狀況的講話（或聲明）。

The boss called a meeting to give us a heads-up on the way the project was going.

老闆召集會議通報計劃進行的情況。

4. song and dance

△米奇爾和卡梅隆爲了再收養一個孩子，他們對來考察他們的孕婦言聽計從。

song and dance本身就表示“歌舞表演”，在英式英語裏有“不着邊際的廢話”的意思，而在美式英語裏，表示“冗長的解釋”。

其實這裏可以理解爲用花言巧語取悅別人：

He gave us a long song and dance about how he needed money to get home.

他花言巧語地大談他如何急需錢回家。
