The London Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe described the standard of British annual fitness test that officers must complete as "too low".

Fat and unfit police must improve their physical condition or "we haven't got a job for them," he said.

Mandatory annual fitness tests came into force in England and Wales in 2014.

The Police Federation said hundreds of officers had failed the tests but no-one had been dismissed yet.
