在美國人口語中，如果你總是用I want，會給人一種你看起來很像小孩說的感覺，而已是那種特別淘氣，特別熱性的小孩(A bratty little kid)。給人一種，粗魯的，沒有禮貌(Rude)，缺乏教養的(Poor manner)，不懂事兒的小孩說的話。你試着想想，你作爲一個成年人了，在人家西方人眼裏，你滿18週歲了，那你就是成年人了，你覺得你說話像個小屁孩，人家考官會怎麼想呢?

所以大家戒掉那個I want吧。改成I would like吧。當你要表達“我想要…”的時候，最好還是用I would like… (較正式)亦或者I’d like ，其縮略版，更口語

1. 點餐不要用I want

記得小編第一次到達美國，幾年前吧!我們去一家高檔餐廳吃飯，美國小夥伴很gentle地讓我先點菜嘍(Ordering)!那個時候，我真的都餓了，也就沒有注意那麼多，那個時候我真應該問問我的小夥伴。小編在那個飢餓難耐的時候，一直在用I want.雖然人家服務員對我的態度真的很好，但是我一直在用這些沒禮貌的用語，感覺好對不起那個美國小哥。還有我身邊的美國小夥伴，那個時候也一定對我很無語，不過後面他還是告訴我，不應該用I want,而應該用以下這些，點菜時，別再說"I want"了，用下面這些表達最恰當：

1) I would like/I'd like...在你一般點餐的時候，就可以選擇用這些較爲正式的表達

2) 當你在一些fine dining(高級餐廳)或是舞會，酒會的時候，你就應該用：

Could I have?/Can I have?

May I have?: 比較正式、非常禮貌， 這兩種表達是我最想推薦給大家的

Eg:

I'd like a steak: 我想要一份牛排

I'd like it medium rare...: 要三成熟的

這三種表達都蠻正式的，下面來看看普通一點的，點快餐(in fast food joints)可以用更簡潔的說法：

3)I'll have +你要點的吃的或喝的

4)你也可以直接說你要點的東西，但後面一定要加個"Please"

Eg: Coca, please

這兩種表達雖然沒有那麼正式，但是絕對還是有禮貌的，至少比I want有禮貌噠!

2. 購物也不要用I want

你進入店鋪，需要買點東西的時候，如果有走過來的服務員說Could I help you,Sir/Mamm?

你就不要用I want這種表達了，可以用：

1) Do you have...?

2) I'm looking you have any?

3) I was wondering if you have... 小編經常用這句

即使你知道店裏有你要的東西，問句形式也更恰當、地道。

Eg：

1) I'm looking for a blue sweater. Do you have any? 我想買個新手機。你們有嗎?

2) Do you have any canvas bags? 我想買包包，有嗎?

3. I want to +…你才能用這個表達，但是還是建議使用would like

I want 在跟介詞to搭配使用的時候，就沒有那麼不禮貌了。因爲很多時候你也會聽到這樣的問句：

1)What do you want to be? 你想成爲什麼?

I want to be happy everyday: 我想每天都很快樂

I want to be + vocation: 我想做什麼什麼職業/工作

2)What do you want to do? 你想幹什麼?

對於回答這個問題，那麼更好地回答也是用would like to +do的形式要好一點。

I'd like to improve my English indeed. 我非常想提高我的英語

I'd like to start my job: 我想開始我的工作了。

4. 當你表達你想上廁所 的時候，要不要用I want呢?

哈哈哈，其實你也會聽到有人說，I want to pee.(我想去尿尿)但是這種確實非常不禮貌，只能用在自己非常熟悉的朋友之間或家人之間，在外面千萬不要再用。

那麼表達自己要去上衛生間的最好表達就是：

1) Nature calls: 婉轉的上廁所說法

2) I need to use the washroom: 我要用一下洗手間
