Go whole hog是一個俚語，起源於十七世紀的英國。當時的英國稱一個先令（shilling）爲一個hog，而一個hog能買不少東西，go whole hog就是一次把一個先令全部花完，一點不剩。後來引申爲“徹底完成某事，全力以赴完成某事”。表示去徹底或全力以赴去完成某事，在短語的後面用介詞in，即爲：go the whole hog in doing something or something。
