One day, the phoenix celebrated its birthday and all the birds came to congratulate it except the bat.

一天，鳳凰做壽，百鳥都來慶賀，只有蝙蝠沒有來。

The phoenix was very angry and blamed the bat:

鳳凰非常惱火，譴責蝙蝠說:

“I am the king of birds, and you are my subordinate. Why are you so arrogant and impolite?”

“我是鳥中之王，你是我的屬下，你爲什麼這樣傲慢而沒有禮貌?”

The bat replied:“I have four legs and belong to the beast family.I am not your should I go to congratulate you?”

蝙蝠回答說:“我有四隻腳，屬於獸類，我不是你的屬下。我爲什麼要朝賀你呢?”

On another day,the unicorn celebrated its birthday,and the bat didn’t go to congratulate it either.

又有一天，麒麟過生日，蝙蝠也沒有去慶賀。

The unicorn was angry too and cursed the bat roundly.

麒麟也非常惱火，大罵蝙蝠。

The bat argued lamely:“I have wings and belong to the bird family, while you belong to the beast family. Why should I go to congratulate you?”

蝙蝠強辯說:“我有翅膀，屬於禽類，而你屬於獸類，我爲什麼要朝賀你呢?”
