美音的整體風格流暢，圓滑，柔和，舒緩；英音的整體風格莊重，渾雄剛健，節奏較美音略快
下面我們對美音與英音在發音上的具體的區別做介紹：
美音 英音
1．對/r/捲舌音的處理
是區分美音與英音最顯著的標誌。 單詞裏的“r”字母全部發音，如以下單詞中黑體的字母發音： 只有“r”後邊跟元音時才發出來，如以下單詞中黑體的字母不發音：
dancer, teacher, forward, purpose, large, church dancer, teacher, forward, purpose, large, church
2. /t/位於單詞中的發音 /t/的發聲部更靠聲帶後部（即喉嚨），所以發出的/t/音很弱，有點像/d/，但又沒有/d/清晰。 /t/音很清晰。
water, sister, quarter, turtle water, sister, quarter, turtle
3. //和/:/ 很多單詞中英音髮長音/:/的，在美音中都發短音//。 髮長音/:/的音
thought, taught, call, walk thought, taught, call, walk
4. /æ/和/a:/ 在英音中很多發/a:/的音，在美音中都發/æ/。 發/a:/的音

5. /ju:/和/u:/ 英音中很多發/ju:/的音，在美音中都發/u:/的音。 發/ju:/的音

6. “-tary”或“tery”結尾的單詞，其發音有/tri/和/tri/兩種 在美音中的發音爲：/tri/，如： 在英音中的發音爲：/tri/，如：
