點滴英語天天學第9課:acquaintance(5)

在今天的課堂上，我們要來學習的內容是與acquaintance相關的一個Idiom. 如果您要表示when you first meet someone（初次見到某人），您就可以使用到它：on first acquaintance。我們通過下面的例句來領會它的意思：

e.g. Even on first acquaintance it was clear that he was not the “right type’. 初次見面就可以看出他是個不對路子的人。

e.g. On first acquaintance I said she was the most complex lady of my acquaintance. 初次見面，我就說過她是我所認識的人中城府最深的女人。

從以上例句中，我們可以知道on first acquaintance是介詞短語，表示時間，在句子中做時間狀語，相當於when you first meet someone。使用時切記不要用爲on the first acquaintance，不要用定冠詞the。

在Example-1中，it is clear that……是主語從句，it是形式賓語，that後面引導的從句是真實主語，意思是“……是顯而易見的”“很清楚（明顯）……”。再如：It is clear that one cannot live upon air.（很清楚，人不能靠喝風生活。）

在Example-2中，the most complex lady of my acquaintance中，運用到了另外一個跟acquaintance相關的Idiom: of my acquaintance，意思是“我所認識的”。此外，complex lady是指“城府很深的女士”。
