印尼火山持續噴發 1.4萬人逃離家園

Mount Sinabung in Indonesia's North Sumatra continues to spew volcanic ash, forcing more than 14,000 villagers to flee their homes.

印尼北蘇門答臘的錫納朋火山(Mount Sinabung)繼續噴發火山灰，迫使逾1.4萬名村民逃離家園。

'The numbers of the refugees is far greater than during the August to September 2010 eruptions, which were far bigger [than the one now],' said National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho on Wednesday.

印尼國家減災機構(National Disaster Mitigation Agency)發言人努格羅荷(Sutopo Purwo Nugroho)週三說，此次難民數量遠高於2010年8月至9月火山噴發期間，那次噴發的規模比當前大得多。

Roughly 12,000 villagers were evacuated when Mount Sinabung erupted three years ago after being dormant for 100 years.

錫納朋火山三年前在休眠了100年之後噴發，當時約1.2萬名村民被疏散。

He said the refugees are now living in churches, mosques and government buildings.

'Some of the men went back to their villages to check their crops and cattle,' he noted.

Small planes serving short-haul flights in the region have been warned to avoid flying near the mountain, the manager for air navigation at Kuala Namu airport in North Sumatra's capital Medan told the Associated Press.

Mount Sinabung's eruption follows a number of other rumblings and eruptions of volcanoes in Indonesia over the past few months. Indonesia has many active volcanoes because the archipelagic country lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
