尼爾：好，歡迎地道英語節目。今天我們將教大家一種和他人打招呼的方式，我們會用到鴨子這個詞。Feifei: Finally. English is, of course, a rich and diverse language, and different regions use different expressions. In the English Midlands — the area around the city of Nottingham — you'll hear this. Imagine I'm in a shop, and Neil is the shopkeeper:

尼爾：你好，親愛的，你需要什麼？Feifei: Hello duck — 'duck' here is a form of address — a word you use when politely speaking to someone.
菲菲：你好，親愛的，這裏“親愛的”是一種稱呼，在禮貌地和別人說話時可以使用這個詞。Neil: And 'duck' is an affectionate term for another person. So if you hear it — please don't be offended — it's a friendly thing to say.

尼爾：這個詞一般是對比你小，或是和你一樣大的人說的。在某種程度上，它的功能和“親愛的”這個詞是一樣的。Feifei: But it's not a phrase that all native English speakers use. When Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie used it when presenting an award to an English actor from the East Midlands, Jack O'Connoll, it confused a lot of people around the world!

尼爾：好吧，女人？還有“寶貝”……Feifei: 'Pet' is used in the North East of England — around Newcastle people call each other 'pet'.
