1. Expression：kick somebody upstairs
Explanation：To promote one to a position that is higher but undesirable or that has little actual responsibility or authority.（明升暗降）
Example：They kicked John upstairs to an assistant manager position so he would stop griping about his pay.

The board of trustees decided to kick the president of the company upstairs.
