Deny/refuse與“拒絕”的用法

Deny/refuse與“拒絕”

本組動詞都有“拒絕”意思，但用法不同：

　　1、deny含義較廣，有“拒絕、否認、不承認、節制、摒棄”等含義。主要搭配如下：

①deny +名詞/doing ，意爲“否認、不承認”。如：

He didn't deny the facts.他不否認事實。

She denied knowing anything about the coming examination.她否認她知道關於下次考試的任何事情。

注意：deny不接動詞不定式作賓語，但可接不定式作賓語補足語。如：

The lawyer denied this to be the case.律師否認這是事實。

②deny + that從句，意爲“否認(某事或某說法)”。如：

The driver denied that he was responsible for the car accident.司機不承認在這次車禍中的責任。

③deny +sb. sth.，意爲“拒絕給予”。如：

Joseph denied his wife nothing.約瑟夫對妻子有求必應。

④deny + oneself +名詞，意爲“拒不、捨棄”。如：

The famous poet lived in a quiet countryside and denied himself to any visitors.那個著名詩人住在安靜的鄉下，不會見任何來客。

　2、 refuse表示堅決甚至無禮貌地拒絕接受某物或做某事;此外，可表示拒絕給予。主要搭配如下：

①refuse +名詞，意爲“拒絕……”。如：

He refused my offer of help.他拒絕了我的幫助。

②refuse sb. sth.，意爲“拒絕某人某物”。如：

I just can’t refuse my granddaughter anything.我就是無法拒絕我孫女的任何要求。

③refuse to do sth.，意爲“拒絕做某事”。

Some university students from the countryside refused to take any donation. 一些農村來的大學生拒絕接受任何捐款。
