新聞熱詞：如何表達“母校”

美國耶魯是常春藤聯合會名牌大學之一，相信大家都曉得。同時，它也是美國總統的搖籃，自1988年起，三位美國總統——老布什、克林頓與小布什——都是耶魯的畢業生。近日，耶魯宣佈，將在互聯網上免費提供一些課程的數字視頻，以便讓更多人享受這所精英大學所提供的服務。

報道中的alma mater就是我們常說的“母校”。Alma mater是個拉丁詞，原指“kind mother”（慈母），現常用來形容“母校”或“高校的校歌”。如例句：We must try to reflect credit on our Alma Mater.（我們必須設法爲母校爭光。）

另外，拉丁詞alumni指的是“男校友”，alumna則是“女校友”。
