Like most people, Americans want to look good.

And many people exercise every day.

Have you ever heard this phrase?

No pain, no gain.

沒有付出，就沒有回報。

Hey, you look great. Have you been exercising?

嘿，你好漂亮啊。你是在健身麼？

Yeah, every day for the last three months.

Well, it must be so hard to exercise for so long.

哇喔，鍛鍊這麼長時間一定很辛苦。

Yeah. But I want to look good. And you know -- no pain, no gain.

In American English, to "gain" something means to get something.

在美語中，gain sth的意思是得到某物。

And often, it takes hard work, especially when you are exercising.

經常，這需要下大工夫，尤其是對於鍛鍊來說。

So in our example, although it might be hard to exercise so much, in the end she gained the look she wanted.

所以在剛纔的例子中，儘管健身很辛苦，但是最後她獲得了自己想要的。
