1. go in one ear and out the other

釋義:To be heard and then soon ignored or forgotten. (聽到後很快就遺忘或忽視;對別人說的話一點也聽不進去,好不放在心上)

用法:也可以說爲:go in at one ear and out at the other。

e.g. Anything we told him went in at one ear and out at the other.

不管我們對他說什麼,他總是當耳邊風。

e.g. They gave me that information years ago, but it must have gone in one ear and out the other.

幾年前他們就告訴我這個消息了,但我絲毫沒放在心上。

e.g. My repeated warnings to her went in one ear and out the other.

她把我對她的一再警告當作耳邊風。

e.g. How many times have I told you.to get to work on time? But my words just go in at one ear and out at the other. So I don't have any choice but to fire you.

我告訴了你多少次上班要準時,可是,你把我的話絲毫沒放在心上。現在,我沒有辦法了,只好解僱你了。

e.g. I told Sally it was foolish to marry that man, but it went in one ear and out the other. Now she wishes she'd listened to me. He drinks and gambles and she wants to leave him now.

2. fall on deaf ears

釋義:To be ignored. (被忽視,未被理睬,沒有被聽取,置若罔聞)

e.g. The hate group makes a point of holding protests outside churches and the funerals of slain soldiers, even though they know their words are likely falling on deaf ears.

雖然這個仇恨組知道他們的話可能會被置若罔聞,但他們還是說要在教堂外和被殺士兵的葬禮上舉行抗議活動。

e.g. Tragedy could have been prevented if the warnings hadn't fallen on deaf ears.

如果這些警告沒有被置若罔聞,悲劇本來是可以避免的。

e.g. Her pleas for mercy fell on deaf ears; the judge gave her the maximum sentence.
