"小三"應該如何翻譯
“第三者”常譯爲the third party，但這種說法可以指任何事情的當事人以外的“第三方”，沒有貶義。作爲影響他人婚姻的“第三者”，倒可借用英語裏比較婉轉的說法the other woman/man。
“小三”這一稱呼大多指女性，從某種意義上說，她們也是受害者(victims)，所以可將“小三”譯爲the poor other woman。有人在網上專門爲她們開設了“小三論壇”，可稱爲Tribune of the Poor Other Woman。
至於“小三文化”，筆者認爲這一說法不好。現在社會上各種“文化”氾濫(run rampant)，西方也有人對culture一詞的亂用頗有微詞，說：In this way, whatever people do monkeys don’t，can be called “culture”. 筆者覺得，時髦漢語中許多帶有“文化”的詞語不宜，也不值得翻譯成culture。
據說“小三論壇”很是紅火(prosperous, even smashing)，但是在“小三論壇”發表文章的不僅有“小三”們自怨自艾的述說(complaints full of remorse)，也有咄咄逼人的宣戰(overbearing declaration of war)，居然還有人爲她們提出“扶正指南”。
受到傷害的妻子們當然不甘心(not reconciled)，於是她們發起反擊，進行“婚姻保衛戰”(launch a war to defend their marriage)，提出要嚴打(crack down on)“小三”們，有人甚至提出“小三過街人人喊打！”(Everyone should shout “beat them” when they see the other women!)的口號。
可見“小三論壇”雖然使這些“不放手———痛苦，放手———也痛苦”(suffer bitterness either continue or end such relations)的女性有了宣泄的地方(a place to give vent to their bitterness)，但這並非解決問題的根本辦法(ways to eradicate this phenomenon)。
