just意爲“只，僅僅”，laugh意爲“笑”，複數laughs在口語中是”消遺，玩樂”的意思。該習語的意思也就是“只是爲了消遺”。例如：playing baseball just for laughs(只爲消遺打打棒球），即並非以輸贏爲目的。
