只因一個小數點 印度男子卻因此自殺大綱

An Indian vegetable seller allegedly killed himself last Thursday after receiving an electric bill of nearly USD 13,000 in the western state of Maharashtra.

據悉，在收到一份約13000美元的電費賬單後，印度西部馬哈拉施特拉邦的一名賣蔬菜的男子在上週四選擇了自殺。

Jagannath Shelke, 36, left behind a suicide note in which he said that the bill was "very high", his family told BBC Marathi.

據其家人向BBC透露，這位今年36歲、名叫賈格納·夏爾克的男子，在他留下的遺書中稱這筆費用“非常高”。

officials said the actual bill was just 2,800 rupees (USD 41.6).

但相關官員卻稱，真實費用其實只有2800盧比（41.6美元）。

His family alleges officials did not help him although he approached them. They say he had made multiple trips to the state-run electricity board.

他的家人聲稱，儘管夏爾克尋找官員求助，但官員並沒有提供幫助。他們表示，夏爾克曾多次前往國營電力局。

Police have lodged a complaint against an official of the electricity board for sending an incorrect bill. The board also suspended him after Shelke's note was widely circulated on social media.

警方已對電力局一位發出錯誤帳單的官員進行了控告。在夏爾克的電費賬單在社交媒體上廣泛傳播後，該電力局也暫停了他的工作。

Shelke had been charged for "61178" units of electricity when he should have been charged for "6117.8" units. Since officials had read the meter incorrectly, they generated a bill for the wrong amount.

其實夏爾克應該要繳納“6117.8”度電的電費，但他的電費單卻顯示“61178”。由於官員閱讀電錶有誤，他們開出了錯誤的賬單。

"The erroneous because of a missing decimal point," Suresh Ganeshkar, a senior engineer told BBC. "We have taken action against the employee who is responsible."

高級工程師蘇雷什·加什卡在接受BBC採訪時表示：“由於缺少小數點，所以該電費賬單是錯誤的。我們已採取行動來處理這位有責任的員工。”

Shelke's daughter, Ashwini, alleged that her father had died because of the system's failure.

夏爾克的女兒阿什維尼聲稱，她的父親是因系統的失誤而死的。

"My father was under a huge financial burden and the exorbitant electricity bill was a big shock for him," she added.

她補充稱：“我的父親承受着巨大的經濟負擔，而那份昂貴的電費賬單對他是一個很大的衝擊。”
