Get ready for the coldest winter since 2012.

爲2012年以來的最冷寒冬做好準備吧。

Most of China - but especially the northeast and northwest - is expected to feel a big chill this winter, thanks to a climate pattern in the Pacific Ocean called La Nina, meteorologists said last Monday.

氣象學家上週一表示，受太平洋氣候模式拉尼娜的影響，預計今冬我國大部，尤其是東北和西北地區將迎來嚴寒天氣。

"Affected by a growing La Nina, the country's average temperature this winter is forecast to be 0.5 degree lower than average," said Zheng Fei, a researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

中國科學院大氣物理研究所研究員鄭飛稱：“受日漸增強的拉尼娜的影響，今冬，我國的平均氣溫預計將比平均水平低0.5℃。”

While that may not sound like much, it means China will be in for some very chilly days.

雖然這聽起來不太可能，但是這確實意味着中國將迎來非常寒冷的天氣。

"The northeastern and northwestern regions will be hit harder, with the temperature dropping much more," he said.

鄭飛表示：“東北部和西北部地區情況會更嚴重，溫度下降幅度會更大。”

La Nina is a periodic cooling of the surface of the equatorial Pacific Ocean, which causes abnormal weather patterns. Another factor is expected to contribute to the cold.

拉尼娜是赤道太平洋海表週期性降溫的現象，會導致異常天氣模式。專家預計，還有一個因素也是這種寒冷氣候的推手。

"The air mass from Arctic has grown stronger in recent years, bringing a larger influence to the winter in China," said Ding Yihui, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

中國工程院院士丁一匯表示："近年來，來自北極的氣團越來越強，給我國冬季帶來了更大的影響。"

Zheng said the temperature would be even lower in January and February due to the larger influence from the air mass.

鄭飛稱，由於來自這股氣團的影響較大，明年1月和2月的氣溫將會更低。
