A mum-of-two has died from cancer after her condition was 'mistaken for depression', her family has claimed. Tina Locke repeatedly complained of stomach and chest pains for two years before the seriousness of her condition became clear.

Doctors wrongly diagnosed her with depression, anxiety and fibromyalgia, her heartbroken family has said. By the time she was diagnosed with cancer, Wales Online reports, it had spread to her abdominal lining and surrounding lymph notes.

Tina, from Penygraig in Rhondda, was described by her husband Jason as a "fine, beautiful Welsh woman who will never be forgotten". The former hairdresser, who was 43 when she died, was eventually told she had signet ring cell adenocarcinoma, a highly malignant form of cancer which is almost immune to chemotherapy.

Husband Jason uploaded a video to social media in a bid to get Tina to Germany for potentially life-saving immunotherapy treatment costing ?300,000. Despite an incredible fundraising effort, which would have been enough money for the first round of treatment, Tina's health deteriorated and she died on September 27.

Dad Jason said his heart was "shattered into a thousand pieces" by her death. "I don't know how we'll ever get over it. We're just going to have to live with it," he said. "I have been grieving all year. In a way it's a relief that she's not suffering anymore but on the other hand we're so sad that she's not here."

He said some of the money from the fundraising effort will go towards erecting a bench at Rest Bay in Porthcawl - one of her favourite spots. "She spent a lot of her last eight weeks down there. She always liked being by the sea," he said.

Hundreds of people have sent their sympathies to the family, including Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood, who lives in Penygraig. On Tina's fundraising page, Jodie Dalton said: "You brave beautiful lady. RIP. You're pain-free now. Fly high, beautiful."
