構成：介詞+名詞

如果有必要可以對名詞進行再一次限定：

under the big tree

介賓短語組合以後可以相當於形容詞或副詞

對比一下：

並列短語兩個詞類一致，組合後保持原來的詞類。

偏正短語兩個詞類不一致，組合後屬於 “正”的詞類。

如：big tree “正”是tree，名詞，這個偏正短語就是名詞屬性

如：run fast “正”是run，動詞，這個偏正短語就是動詞屬性

如：always young “正”是young，形容詞，這個偏正短語就是形容詞屬性

既然介詞短語相當於形容詞或副詞，那麼作什麼句子成分呢?

一、作定語(後置)

The boy under the tree is my brother.

We all like the boy in school uniform.

二、作表語

My brother is happy.

happy是形容詞，作表語。

My brother is under the tree.

under the tree是介賓短語，作用和一個形容詞是一樣的，作表語。

三、作狀語

The boy played the guitar yesterday.

yesterday是副詞，作狀語。

The boy played the guitar under the tree.

under the tree是介詞短語，作用和一個副詞是一樣的，作狀語。

四、作賓補

He put his watch on the desk.

介詞短語on the desk補充說明watch所在的位置，賓補和賓語之間有種邏輯的主謂關係，比如在他們之間加上一個系動詞：

The watch is on the desk.

這個句子在邏輯上是成立的，這就是賓補的判斷方法。

He left his keys in the room.
