An investigation conducted by the bureau Wednesday found that food-grade lye that was used to clean pipes had leaked into and contaminated a production line at one of the company's plants on Monday, a bureau spokesman said early Thursday.
上海市質監局發言人週四早上稱，該局週三對此事做了調查，發現光明乳業某廠週一進行生產時，不慎將用來清洗管道的食用級鹼水滲入生產線上的牛奶中。
上面報道中的food-grade lye就是食用級鹼水，食用鹼常被用作食品curing agent(固化劑)和肉類tenderizer(嫩化劑)。食用鹼不同於工業用鹼，後者腐蝕性極強，一般用做drain opener(下水疏通劑)和detergent(清潔劑)。
從2008年melamine milk(三聚氰胺奶)事件開始，國內幾大乳企頻頻爆出過質量門。從去年年底的蒙牛牛奶aflatoxin(黃麴黴毒素，一種致癌物)超標，再到近期伊利baby formula(嬰兒配方奶粉)和whey powder(乳清粉)含excessive mercury(汞超標)，讓國人對國產乳製品的信心急速下滑。
