1.獨自，單獨：形(僅作表語)/副： I’m terrified at the prospect of being alone in the house. 我要是自己呆在一所房子裏就很害怕。

3.(名或代後)僅僅,只有：

5. alone, lone, lonely的區別：

(1) alone (形)，主要表示客觀上的一個人或沒有外人，一般不表示寂寞或孤獨等感情色彩，在句中只用作表語。但在現代英語中，alone有時也可表示“孤獨的”，表示類似lonely 的意思。如：

He felt terribly alone when his wife left. 他妻子離去後他感到很孤獨。

(2) lone 表示“孤單的”“單獨的”“無伴的”等，通常只用作定語。

(3) lonely有3個意思：一是表示“寂寞的”“孤寂的”，帶有較強感情色彩，可用作表語或定語;二是表示“孤單的”“沒有伴侶的”，不帶感情色彩，此時通常只用作定語(用於此義時可與lone換用);三是表示“荒涼的”“偏僻的”，用來說明地方，此時多用作定語。
