s所有格的用法大全

　　單數名詞和不以-s結尾的複數名詞在詞尾加’s(以s結尾的只需加’)構成所有格，主要用於有生命的東西。

例如：

It’s made from mare’s，cow’s or ewe’s milk.

它是用馬奶、牛奶或者羊奶製成的。

　　但也可用於表示時間、城市、地方、團體、機構等非生命的事物。例如：

We accepted the invitation without a moment’s hesitation.

我們一點也沒有猶豫就接受了邀請。

They are holding conferences to discuss the Europe’s future.

他們正召開各種會議來討論歐洲的前景。

We heartily applauded the delegation’s successful visit.

我們熱烈歡呼代表團訪問成功。

New York’s population is much larger than Washington’s，though it is not the capital city.

　　在某些習慣用語中，儘管是表示無生命的名詞，也需要’s的所有格。例如：

The driver escaped the death by a hair’s breadth.

另外，for friendship’s sake(爲了友情)，at a stone’s throw(一箭之遠)，at one’s finger’stip(手頭上有)，at arm’s length(保持距離)，at one’s wits’end(黔驢技窮)等都屬此類。
