Gold Standard
在第一次世界大戰之前，世界經濟處於 Gold Standard（金本位制度）之下。
它的意思是每個國家發行的紙幣以國家擁有的黃金數量爲準，有多少黃金就發行多少紙幣，國庫裏放的黃金爲紙幣兜底。這套制度曾經非常良好地運轉，但受制於黃金的生產和開採。
我們來看2個例句：
The gold standard was the world standard of the age of capitalism, increasing welfare, liberty, and democracy, both political and economic.
金本位制是資本主義時代的世界標準機制，在政治上和經濟上都增加了人類的福利、自由和民主。
When sterling finally went off the gold standard in 1931, Bank of England notes ceased to be convertible into any other medium.
當英鎊最後在1931年放棄金本位時，英格蘭銀行鈔券就被停止兌換了。
