Jack: That doesn't surprise me. Usually you strike out after using one of your stupid pick-up lines!

Tim: I didn't get that far this time. Maybe she was just playing hard to get.

今天，我們先來學習strike out。在這個小對話中，to strike out means to fail or be unsuccessful，譯爲：砸鍋，失敗，沒戲。我們來看個例句：The movie struck out and didn't win a single Oscar. （那部電影砸鍋了，奧斯卡獎一項都沒有得。）

下面，我們再來看2個小對話，來進一步學習strike out的運用：

Dialogue 1:

A : Did Nancy agree to go out with you. （Nancy答應和你約會了嗎？）B: No, I struck out. （沒有，我徹底沒戲了。）
Ps : go out with sb. 在口語表示“與......約會”。

Dialogue 2:

A: Did you ask Ann out on a date?（你叫Ann出去約會了嗎？）

B: Yes, but I struck out. She said no. （約了，但是我沒戲了，她沒答應。）

Ps : ask sb. On a date的意思是“叫某人出去約會”。Say no的意思是“拒絕，沒答應”。

Strike out作爲“砸鍋，失敗”這個意思解釋時，是非正式書面用語。我們用標準英語來如何說這句話：Usually you strike out after using one of your stupid pick-up lines! 我們可以用fail來進行替換，即：Usually you fail after using one of your stupid lines.
