考生應能掌握5500左右的詞彙以及相關詞組。除掌握詞彙的基本含義外，考生還應掌握詞彙之間的詞義關係，掌握詞彙之間的搭配關係，掌握詞彙生成的基本知識。

1. ridiculous

adj.  可笑的，荒謬的；荒唐的，愚蠢的；

[例句]It is ridiculous to suggest we are having a romance.

暗示我們正在談戀愛的說法真是太荒謬了。

2. rigid

adj.  僵硬的；嚴格的；（規則、方法等）死板的；剛硬的，頑固的；

[例句]Several colleges in our study have rigid rules about student conduct.

在我們的研究中，有幾所大學制定了嚴格的學生行爲規則。

3. ripe

adj.  成熟的；醇美可口的；老練的；時機成熟的；

[例句]Always choose firm, but ripe fruit.

一定要挑選硬實但已成熟的水果。

4. roll

vt.    滾動；輾轉；使（眼球等）左右轉動；（使）原地轉圈；

vi.    翻滾；左右搖晃；開始移動，啓動；

n.     名冊；滾翻；

[例句]The ball rolled into the net.

球滾進了網中。

5. rot

n.      腐爛，腐朽；

vt.    （使）腐爛，（使）腐朽；

[例句]If we don't unload it soon, the grain will start rotting in the silos.

如果我們不立刻把糧食卸下來，它們就會在筒倉裏開始腐爛。

6. roundabout

n.     繞道；環形交通樞紐；旋轉木馬；

adj.  繞圈子的；不直截了當的；間接的，迂迴的；

[例句]He left today on a roundabout route for Jordan and is also due soon in Egypt.

他今天啓程繞道去約旦，用不了多久還會去埃及。

7. row

n.     划船；行，排；吵鬧；路，街；

vt.    划船；使…成排；與…進行划船比賽；〈口〉爭吵，吵鬧；

[例句]Several men are pushing school desks and chairs into neat rows.

幾個人正挪動學校的桌椅，將它們排整齊。

8. rub

vt.    擦，摩擦；用…擦；觸怒；（使）相互磨擦；

vi.     接觸，摩擦；擦傷；在困境中持續下去；

n.      摩擦的動作；表面不平；阻礙，困難；

[例句]He rubbed his arms and stiff legs.

他按摩着自己的胳膊和僵硬的雙腿。

9. rush

vi.     （使）急速行進，倉促完成；猛攻；急速流動，奔騰；

vt.     突襲；（使）倉促行事；催促；（爲物色、招募目的）特別關注；

n.      衝；匆忙；繁忙的活動；涌動；

[例句]A schoolgirl rushed into a burning flat to save a man's life.

一位女學生衝進起火的公寓裏去救一名男子。

10. rust

n.      鐵鏽；鏽病，鏽菌；荒廢，停滯；鏽，鏽色；

vt.    （使）生鏽；[植]害鏽病；變鈍，荒廢；

[例句]Manufacturers are looking into building cars out of plastic to avoid the problem of rust.

製造商們正研究如何用塑料製造車輛，以避免生鏽。

11. ruthless

adj.  狠；殘忍的；無情的，冷酷的；辣；

[例句]The President was ruthless in dealing with any hint of internal political dissent.

在處理任何內部政治分歧的苗頭時，總統都毫不留情。

12. ultimate

adj.  極限的；最後的；最大的；首要的；

n.     終極；頂點；基本原理；基本事實；

[例句]He said it is still not possible to predict the ultimate outcome.

他說現在還無法預料最終的結局。

13. unanimous

adj.  全體一致的；一致同意的，無異議的；

[例句]Editors were unanimous in their condemnation of the proposals.

編輯人員一致譴責這些提議。

14. uncover

vt.    揭開…的蓋子；揭露，發現；拿下（頭上）戴的東西，脫（帽）；將（狐）趕出；

vi.     發現，揭示；

[例句]Auditors said they had uncovered evidence of fraud.

審計人員說他們已經發現了欺詐的證據。

15. underestimate

vt.    低估；看輕；對…估計不足；把…的價值估計過低；

n.     低估；輕視；估計不足；過低評價，過低估價；

[例句]None of us should ever underestimate the degree of difficulty women face in career advancement.

我們誰都不應該低估女性在事業發展過程中所面臨的困難程度。
