A hungry Fox found in a hollow tree a quantity of bread and meat, which some shepherds had placed there against their return. Delighted with his find he slipped in through the narrow aperture and greedily devoured it all. But when he tried to get out again he found himself so swollen after his big meal that he could not squeeze through the hole, and fell to whining and groaning over his misfortune. Another Fox, happening to pass that way, came and asked him what the matter was; and, on learning the state of the case, said, “Well, my friend, I see nothing for it but for you to stay where you are till you shrink to your former size; you’ll get out then easily enough.”

脹肚的狐狸
飢餓的狐狸在一棵中空的樹幹中發現了一些牧羊人存留的麪包和肉。高興之餘，他立即通過那狹窄的縫隙擠進去，貪婪的大吃起來。然而，當他吃飽之後，卻發現自己的肚子脹鼓鼓的，即便費了九牛二虎之力，卻怎麼也鑽不出那個洞來，便在樹洞裏唉聲嘆氣。另一隻狐狸恰巧經過那裏，聽到他的呻吟，便過去問他原因。聽明白緣由後，那隻狐狸便說道：“我的朋友，你就老老實實待在裏邊吧，等到恢復了鑽進去之前的身材，你就能輕鬆地出來了。”
二年級少兒英語故事：The Fox and the TigerAn Archer, hunting in the woods, was so successful with his arrows that he killed many of the wild animals. This frightened the rest so much that they ran into the densest part of the bushes to hide. At last the Tiger stood up, and pretending to be very brave, told the other animals not to be afraid anymore, but to rely on his courage, and he would attack the enemy on his own. While he was talking, and lashing his tail and tearing at the ground with his claws to impress the others, an arrow came and pierced his ribs. The Tiger howled with pain.
While he was trying to draw out the arrow with his teeth the Fox went up to him and asked, in surprise, whoever had the strength and courage to wound such a brave and mighty beast as the Tiger?
"Nay," said the Tiger, "I misjudged my enemy. It was that unbeatable man over there!"

5. Mouse sits up. He hears that roar and runs to help.

7. Mouse starts to chew. He cuts off the ropes with his teeth and sets Lion free! Little Mouse saves Big Lion!

8. Lion does not laugh at Mouse now. Because he knows — even the littlest Mouse can help the biggest Lion.
