'The play may begin at any moment,' I said.
'It may have begun already,' Susan answered.
I hurried to the ticket office. 'May I have two tickets please?' I asked.
'I'm sorry, we've sold out,' the girl said.
'What a pity!' Susan exclaimed.
Just then, a man hurried to the ticket office.
'Can I return these two tickets?' he asked.
'Certainly,' the girl said.
I went back to the ticket office at once.
'Could I have those two tickets please?' I asked.
'Certainly,' the girl said, 'but they're for next Wednesday's performance. Do you still want them?'
'I might as well have them,' I said sadly.

play may begin at any moment.
may:可能發生，表不確定的猜測
at any moment：隨時，馬上
at the moment ＝now
at that moment＝just then 就在那時
2.I hurried to the ticket office.
hurry:此處爲vi.
hurry to : 匆匆忙忙地去
hurry up:趕快，快點
be in a hurry:匆匆忙忙地 （此處hurry爲n.）
've sold out.
這句話意指The tickets are sold out.
sold up:變賣（財產）
I return these two tickets?
a return ticket:一張往返票 (此處return爲adj.往返的)
return to : 回來
return to China/Beijing 回到中國/北京
return to you 退回你
return money : 還錢 ＝pay back,repay
're for next Wednesday's performance.
此處they指代two tickets
注意介詞for:表示一個具體的時間
6.I might as well have them.
此處them指代two tickets
might/may as well:不妨... ，還是...的好
might as well 語氣上比may as well更委婉一些
注意：have 是最活躍的詞, 可以指任何的意思.
have coffee : 喝咖啡
have ticket : 買票 (習慣用法)
I'll have/take sth. 我買...(一般不用 “buy” , 習慣用法)
第四部分 KEY STRUCTURES AND USAGE
助動詞can和may的用法
都可用來表示請求，也可用於表示推測，表示可能性
Ex:
1)表請求的用法
May I have two tickets please?
Can I have a cup of coffee please?
Could you lend me some money?(語氣上，could比can更委婉、更客氣)
2)表推測，可能性的用法
The play may begin at any moment.
It may have begun already.
He might come but I'm not sure. （might比may語氣上更委婉，更不確定些）
比較句意
This may not be true.（這也許不是真的）
This cannot be true.（這不可能是真的）
Such things may happen.（這樣的事情也許會發生）
Such things can happen.（這樣的事情是可能會發生的）
