形容詞afraid 的用法

afraid 的基本意思是"懼怕,害怕,不敢",有四種用法:

　　 afraid of something 害怕

Don't be afraid of the dog. 別害怕那隻狗。

　　2.與of 連用，be afraid of doing something.“害怕某事發生”

表示可能會有不好的事情發生(如事故),不是有目的做某事。

I don't like dogs. I'am always afraid of being bitten.

我不喜歡狗。我經常害怕被狗咬。

I was afraid to go near the dog because I was afraid of being bitten.

我不敢接近狗，因爲我怕被狗咬。

　　3.與動詞不定式連用, be afraid to do something.“不敢做某式”

不想做這件事情，因爲它很危險，或結果可能不好。它表示有目的做某事。

A lot of people are afraid to go out at night.

許多人不敢晚上出去。

　　4.在給某人不愉快的信息時,通常用I'am afraid,後接從句

I'm afraid I have some rather bad news for you.

恐怕我給你帶來了壞消息。

　　形容詞afraid的用法

1. 不是動詞，是形容詞，因此不能單獨作謂語：正：Don’t be afraid. 別怕。誤：Don’t afraid.

2. 是表語形容詞，一般不能放在名詞前作定語。但若是本身有修飾語，則也可以放在名詞前作定語;有時構成短語可放在被修飾的名詞後作後置定語：a boy afraid of dogs 怕狗的男孩 a very much afraid boy 十分膽怯的男孩

3. I’m afraid 意爲“恐怕”，是一種提出異議、說出令人不快事實時的委婉說法：

I’m afraid (that) he won’t come. 恐怕他不會來了。

I’m afraid 之後可接 so 或 not, 表示前面所提到的情況。表肯定時用 so;表否定時用 not：

A：Will he be late again? 他又會遲到嗎? B：I’m afraid so (not). 恐怕會 (不會)吧。

注意上面的否定說法不能改爲 I’m not afraid (so)

4. 比較be afraid of doing sth / be afraid to dosth：

(1)兩者含義大致相同，意爲“害怕 (做)…”、“不敢 (做)…” ：

I’m afraid to tell [of telling] her. 我不敢告訴她。

(2)但若要表示擔心可能會發生某事，則只能用 be afraid of doing而不能用 be afraid to do：

I was afraid of hurting herfeelings. 我怕傷了她的感情。

She was afraid of waking herhusband. 她怕弄醒她丈夫。
