go 的用法go是英語中較爲活躍的一個動詞，常可以與其它動詞搭配，構成go doing，go and do，go to do以及go do這樣4種形式。搭配不同，後面的動詞形式所起的語法作用就不同，所表達的意義自然也不同，這就直接關係到如何使用及翻譯這幾種形式的問題。本文擬就這4種結構之間的區別作一分析。
一、go doing
1.作爲功名詞時，經常是由表示娛樂、消遣、運動的不及物動詞-ing組成。如：boat，cycle，dance，drink，fish，hunt，hike，run，ramble，shoot，shop，ski，skate，swim，walk。這些詞實際起的是目的狀語的作用，即go somewherefor doing something(去某地從事某項活動)。如：
go fishing去釣魚
go boating去划船
go dancing去跳舞
go hunting去打獵
go riding去騎馬
go shooting去射擊
go skiing去滑雪
go walking去散步
go swimming去游泳
2.作爲現在分詞時，有下面兩種情況：
(1)表示行爲動作的及物動詞，常帶有賓語。V-ing表伴隨狀況。經常用於否定旬、疑問句和條件句中，表示責備、告誡、吃驚、憤怒等情感，可以翻譯成“別„„”、“竟然„„”、“再„„”。主要用於某人做了愚蠢的事情時說話人對其加以勸阻，希望對方不要再繼續做下去。如： Don't go making himangry.別老惹他生氣。
Don't go telling everybody;it's a secret.不要到處告訴別人。這是個祕密。
Don't go saying that!別冒失地說那些話。
If you go eating those green apples，youwill make yourself ill.再吃那些青蘋果，你會得病的。 He went running to the police.他跑着去找警察。
(2)表示行爲動作的不及物動詞，如flying(laughing，crashing，crying)，表示“移動的特殊方式”或“邊走邊做某事”。如：
The plate went crashing to the floor.盤子墜落到地板上。
The bali went flying.球在飛行。
You shouldn't go boasting about your achi-evements.不要到處吹噓你的成就。
二、go and do
前後的兩個動詞都是過去時態時，兩者是並列的，無主次之分，均重讀。第二個動詞常爲及物動詞，並帶有自己的賓語。這一結構常用來表示對過去某人做過某事而感到吃驚、惱怒，可譯爲“居然„„”、“竟然„„”、“幹嗎„„”。如：
He went and won first prize.他居然得了第一名。
I went and spilt ketchup all over my bestdress.我竟然把番茄汁全灑在自己最好的衣服上了。 He went and bought another one.他竟然又買了一個。
這時前後兩個動詞也可以是完成時態，表示極爲愚蠢地做了某事。如：
You've really gone and done it this time.這次你真的做了。
前後的兩個動詞都是現在時態時，表示去做某事。第二個動詞起目的狀語的作用。這時這個結構相當於go to do sth„„。多用於祈使句中。如：
Go and post the letter for me.(=Go to postthe letter for me.)給我把這封信寄走。 I must go and telephone.我必須去打個電話。
Let us go and sit in the shade.我們坐陰涼地兒去。
三、go to do
1.動詞不定式在此起目的狀語的作用。這時go沒有時態上的限制。翻譯成“去幹„„”。如：
Jim went to buy some more ice cream aboutten minutes ago.吉姆10分鐘前又去買了些冰淇淋。
2.表示“有助於”。常與show連用。如：
Which qualities go to make a good teacher?什麼品質有助於培養一個好老師?
It goes to show that he can be trusted.這有助於表明他是可以信賴的。
3.用在否定句時，表示“想”。如
I didn't go to do it.我並不想做這事。
四、go do
這種用法較少，主要用於口語，用在祈使句中，表示命令。翻譯時，go的位置較靈活，意義也不重要，可翻譯在第二個動詞的前邊或後邊。如：
Go jump in the lake!(用在說話人生氣時讓某人離開)跳湖去吧!
Go tell Aunt Mary.去告訴瑪麗姑媽。
