間接轉述(Indirect Speech)

所謂間接轉述也就是將聽到的和看到的話語用自己的話以口頭方式再轉達出來，要用自己的話把別人的意思轉述出來。在託福口語的表達過程中，針對特定問題，用自己的話把讀到、聽到的對話內容或演講內容再重複出來。對於托福考生來說確實是有一定的難度的。

在轉述中一般常見的規則就是，轉述的引語連詞使用that。另外，託福口語練習中要根據意思改變人稱。請看下面的例題：

My mother said: “I’m so tired that I don’t want to cook. Shall we eat out tonight?”

轉述：My mother said that she was so tired that she didn’t want to cook and she suggested that we should eat out that day.

釋義、意譯(Paraphrasing)

意譯就是用你所知道的，或者對你來說較容易的詞彙、短語、以及語法去解釋那些較爲難懂的語句。

概述(Summarizing)

就是用簡練話語概括描述一篇材料的中心思想。概述主要就是對整篇文章的方向、內容、或是一個事件的簡單描述。概述與論述相對應，論述需要詳細的描述該事實的前因後果，力求詳細完整。

Listen to a conversation between two students.

(man) Hey, Jennifer. How are things going?

(woman) Well, I’m relieved this is the end of semester. But that’s actually part of my problem.

(man) What do you mean?

(woman) Can you believe this? My computer broke yesterday. So it’s at the shop being repaired. It won’t be read y until the end of n ext week which is when all my papers are due.

(man) Why not use the computer lab? They’ve got lots of machines there.

The first one is that she can go to the computer lab to do all the work. The second is waiting for her computer to be repaired. I would use the computer lab to do my work if I were her. First, this way she won’t waste anytime on the weekend, and there is no guaranty that the repair shop can get her computer ready as early as the beginning of next week. Second, she can choose a time when the lab is less noisy to do her work, such as early in the morning or late in the evening.
