in a roundabout way:拐彎抹角地,間接地,兜圈子

英文釋義:not done or said using the shortest, simplest or most direct way possible

例句:
He told us, in a very roundabout way, that he was thinking of leaving.
他拐彎抹角地對我們說他想走了.

savour of something:意味着;有點...成分,有點...的味道(尤指壞事)

英文釋義:to seem to have an amount of something, especially something bad

His recent comments savour of hypocrisy.

save the day/situation:挽回敗局;扭轉局面

釋義:to prevent failure or defeat, when this seems certain to happen

Owen's late goal saved the day for Liverpool.

save (somebody's) face:(使)保全面子

釋義:to avoid or help somebody avoid embarrassment

例句:
She was fired, but she saved face by telling everyone she'd resigned.

釋義:used to tell somebody that it is not worth wasting time and effort saying something because it will not change anything

例句:

somebody's/something's days are numbered:(指人)死期不遠了,得意的日子屈指可數了;(指物)用不了多久了,壽命不長了

釋義:a person or thing will not continue to live, exist or be successful for much longer

His days as leader of the party are numbered.

one of those days:諸事不順的日子;倒黴的日子

釋義:a day when there are a lot of mistakes and a lot of things go wrong

It's been one of those days! 這一天真倒黴!


have had your day: 得意之時已過;風光不再;日漸衰敗

釋義:to no longer be successful, powerful, etc.

She's had her day as a supermodel. 她作爲超級模特兒的輝煌日子已一去不復返.

it's not somebody's day:禍不單行;特別倒黴的一天

釋義:used when several unfortunate or unpleasant things happen on the same day

My car broke down and then I locked myself out─it's just not my day! 我的汽車拋錨了,我又沒帶房門鑰匙 真是禍不單行!

make somebody's day:使某人一天非常快活

釋義:to make somebody feel very happy on a particular day

The phone call from Mike really made my day. 邁克打來電話,真讓我一天都快樂無比.
