After treating his four children with a trip to Lapland UK on Thursday, the former footballer confessed that the festive period when he was a child wasn’t quite as grand.

Speaking on new football app OTRO, the 43-year-old recalled how his parents, Sandra, now 69, and David, 70, would start with a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken on Christmas Eve and a new set of pyjamas.

Posting a snippet of his recent interview to Instagram, the multi-millionaire sportsman said: ‘Growing up I had a very happy childhood.'My parents worked day and night to give me and my sisters everything possible.

Taking to Instagram to share snaps from their festive break, David and wife Victoria, 44, gave fans a glimpse into the festivities as they took a tour around Santa's Grotto.
