海外文化:老外的"親戚關係"也複雜(cousin and removed)
我們中國人親屬稱謂的複雜是衆所周知的，不但有父系和母系的區別，還有南北的地域差別。叔叔和舅舅是不同的，姥姥和外婆是相同的，這些通常會讓老外一個頭兩個大。我們總以爲，英語中的親屬稱謂很簡單，不管叔叔舅舅姑父姨夫，都是uncle，不管祖父祖母外公外婆，都是grandparents。但是如果一個人跳出來說，我是你的third cousin, twice removed，你知道你們是什麼關係嗎？
通常情況下，老外不會用這麼複雜的詞來介紹一位家庭成員，不管是first cousin還是Second Cousin，介紹的時候，說，這是我cousin就可以了。不過如果你向別人很詳細的介紹你的家族史或者家譜的時候，最好知道要用什麼合適的詞來介紹你的親戚。下面要說的就是我們不太會提到的一些親屬稱謂了：
Cousin (a.k.a "first cousin")
you. first cousins are the people in your family who have two of the same grandparents as you. In other words, they are the children of your aunts and uncles.
你的first cousin是你家人中和你有同樣的祖父母或者外祖父母的人。換句話說，他們是你父母的親兄弟親姐妹的孩子。
Second Cousin
Your second cousins are the people in your family who have the same great-grandparents as you., but not the same grandparents.
你的second cousion是你家人中和你有同樣的曾祖父母或者曾外祖父母的人。也就是說，你們的祖父母或者外祖父母是親生的兄弟姐妹。
以此類推，還有Third, Fourth, and Fifth Cousins。
上面說了幾種cousin，那麼removed是什麼概念呢？
removed 說的是兩個人不是一代人，或者說不是一個輩分的。你和你的表親是一代人，所以你們之間不能說removed。而你爸爸的first cousin和你不是一代人，這個人就是你的first cousin, once removed。兩個人之間差一個輩分就是once removed，如果差兩個輩分就是twice removed。
所以，我們開頭提到的third cousin, twice removed，已經是很遠很遠的親戚了
