美中外交與安全對話將於週五舉行

The United States and China will hold the top-level diplomatic and security dialogue that was supposed to be held in Beijing in October in Washington on Friday, the U.S. State Department said.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, Chinese politburo member Yang Jiechi and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe will take part in the talks, a statement issued on Monday said.

China said last month the two sides had initially agreed "in principle" to hold the second round of diplomatic security talks in October but they were postponed at Washington's request amid rising tensions over trade, Taiwan and the South China Sea.

Mattis had been due to hold talks with Wei in Beijing in October, but those plans were up-ended after Washington imposed sanctions on China's People's Liberation Army for buying weapons from Russia.

Mattis did meet Wei in Singapore on Oct. 18 and told him that the world's two largest economies needed to deepen high-level ties to reduce the risk of conflict.美國國務院表示，原本定於10月在北京舉行的美中高層外交與安全對話將於週五在華盛頓舉行。

一份週一發表聲明說，美國國務卿彭佩奧、國防部長馬蒂斯、中國政治局委員楊潔篪和國防部長魏鳳和上將參加會談。

中國上個月表示，雙方最初“原則上”同意在10月份舉行第二輪外交與安全會談，但在貿易分歧、臺灣問題和南海緊張局勢升級的情況下，會談由於華盛頓的要求而被推遲。

美國防長馬蒂斯原定於10月份在北京與魏鳳和舉行會談，但華盛頓因中國軍方從俄羅斯購買武器而對人民解放軍實施制裁，導致這一計劃被調整。

馬蒂斯於10月18日在新加坡與魏鳳和見面並對他表示，世界上兩個最大的經濟體需要深化高層關係，以減少發生衝突的風險。
