英語語法學習：little和a little的用法差異

一、little作“少量”講。它和a little都可用於不可數名詞，作定語，賓語，程度狀語。a little表示肯定意義，意思是“一些”;little表示否定意義，意思是“很少”、“沒有多少”、“幾乎沒有”

1.a.There is a little water there.那兒有一些水。(定語)

b.There is little water there.那兒沒有多少水。(定語;表示“幾乎沒有”。)

2.Little is known at present about this reaction.關於這個反應目前幾乎沒有什麼瞭解。(主語：若主語改用A little，則句義就變爲“…… 有所瞭解”。)

二、(主語)little算否定詞，用於反義疑問句時，注意前後謂語一負一正的相互關係。作狀語用於句首時，後面主、謂語要顛倒

1.There is linie water in the thermos flask,is there?熱水瓶裏沒有水，是不是?(句末不能用“isn't there”)

2.Little does he care whether rabbits live or die.他極少關心兔下的死活。(倒裝語序)

【注】當否定詞little本身作主語時，這時主、謂語就不顛倒。

三、little作形容詞“小的”講，和small意思相近，但small單純表示尺寸“小的”、而little除表示“小”以外，還帶有一定的主觀感情色彩

many little things of life許多生活小事;

a little present 一件小禮物;

the little dog這條小狗;

the little people in society社會上的小人物;

these little problems 這些小問題;

that little red rose那朵小的紅玫瑰。

四、與little搭配的常用短語

little by littIe 一點點地或逐漸地;

no less than (=at least) 5 miles 絕不少於五英里或至少五英里;

not a little... 不少或相當多(糖、經驗)。

【注】注意not a little和not a bit的區別。

1)She is not a little tired.她累得很。

2)They are not a bit tired.他們一點不累。
