doctor常用用法說明
doctor 表示兩個常用意思時的用法說明
1. 表示“醫生”，注意以下用法：
(1) 可以與姓氏連用，此時既可用完整形式，也可用縮略形式(Dr.)。如：
A：Jane’s crazy. 簡瘋了。
B：Who says so? 誰說的?
A：Dr Bannister. 班尼斯特爾大夫說的。
There she remained under the care of Doctor Brown. 在那兒她一直由布朗醫生照顧。
(2) 可直接用作稱呼。如：
Doctor, I’ve got this pain in my elbow. 醫生，我的胳膊肘兒痛。
(3) 在英國，doctor 主要指內科醫生(physician)，而不包括外科醫生(surgeon)和牙科醫生(dentist);而在美國，doctor 則可視爲“醫生”的總稱，既指內科醫生和外科醫生，也指牙科醫生。
(4) 漢語說“看病”，在英語中通常說成see a doctor(看醫生)。如：
He said I should see a doctor. 他說我應當去看醫生。
2. 表示“博士”，注意以下用法：
(1) 與姓氏連用時，它通常只用縮略式而不用完整形式。如：
This is Dr Brown. 這是布朗博士。
Dr Barnaby gave us a very interesting talk on boat building in ancient times. 巴納比博士爲我們做了一次關於古代造船的很有趣的講演。
(2) 注意以下“博士學位”的表達：
He took his doctor’s degree at Harvard. 他在哈佛得了博士學位。
She’s presently working on her PhD. 她目前在攻讀哲學博士學位。
She’s studying for her doctorate. 她正在攻讀博士學位。
He earned his doctorate in philosophy. 他獲得了哲學博士學位。
