Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay commenting on food safety. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

In recent years, the simple joy of eating had been dampened by a string of food safety scandals. The problem of food safety has become a hot issue across the society.

In my opinion, there are two main reasons behind this undesirable phenomenon. First and foremost, lured by huge interests, a number of unscrupulous businesses break the law to make fake commodities or products of poor quality. Besides, the supervisory role of laws and regulations has not been executed in a strict way.

In view of the seriousness of the problem, effective measures should be taken before things get worse. Firstly, the government should intensify the supervision of food market to ensure the safety of food source from bottom to top. Secondly, tougher laws should be drawn up to punish those counterfeiting individuals and corporations, and to prohibit them from entering the food industry again. Thirdly, we ordinary people should also be alert to the food quality and expose food safety scandals around us on new media platforms when necessary.

In conclusion, I am firmly convinced that through our joint efforts the problem of food safety will be tackled successfully in the near future.

Paper reading

With mobile phones widely used in our daily lives, various Apps emerge. Reading has therefore become more convenient. However, different people hold different views toward online reading.

Though more convenient reading becomes, I like paper reading more than online reading. The reasons are as follows. Firstly, I cherish the moment keeping company with the book. When I bury my head into the book, the special fragrance of the book slips through my fingers, into my nose, then into my brain. How marvelous the feeling is! Secondly, I can take various notes on the book as long as I want to, which is not that easy to do when reading online. When I have finished reading the book, what I harvest will be not only the knowledge and idea the book conveys, but also my systematic thinking about the book, which can be vividly embodied by my notes on the book. Thirdly, paper reading won’t be distracted easily by irrelevant information which often emerges in online reading.

Based on the above three points, I prefer paper reading to online reading.
