　　Should mothers stay home with children? 母親應該在家照顧孩子嗎

Christophe: Hello, this is Christophe from Belgium and Aiste from Lithuania. Today's question is ... Should mothers stay home when the children are young? I think the mother's should definitely stay home. My mom was a single mother and she had to work immediately after the birth because she had to earn money to raise the children and I didn't really like that I preferred to have a mom that stays at home. You had a different situtation.

克里斯托夫：大家好，我是克里斯托夫，來自比利時，這位是艾斯蒂，來自立陶宛。今天的話題是，孩子小時候，母親應該留在家裏嗎?我認爲母親絕對應該待在家裏照顧孩子。我媽媽是單身母親，她在生產後不得不馬上工作，因爲她要掙錢養孩子，我不喜歡那樣，我希望媽媽留在家裏照顧孩子。你的情況和我不一樣。

Aiste: Well, young children ... My mom stayed with me for one year when I was really a baby and after she gave birth to me she made a break in her studies and she stayed with me for one year. Later I remember both my parents going to study or to work and some neighbor or my grandmother used to stay at home and take care of me but I went to kindergarten from two years old that's kind of early I think.

艾斯蒂：嗯，小孩子……我還是嬰兒時，我媽媽在家照顧了我一年，她生產後暫停了學業，在家照顧了我一年。我記得，後來我父母就去上學或上班了，一些鄰居或我的祖母會在家照顧我，我兩歲時上的幼兒園，那個年齡是偏早的。

Lia: Hi, this is Lia from Indonesia.

利婭：嗨，我是利婭，來自印度尼西亞。

Santi: And this is Santi. The same, from Indonesia.

桑蒂：我是桑蒂，同樣來自印尼。

Lia: We are both sisters. So, my question for you is ... Is it common for a man to cook in your country?

利婭：我們兩個是好姐妹。我想問你的問題是，在你們國家男性做飯普遍嗎?

Santi: Well, I will answer from my family perspective. No, it's not common in our family to have a man cook in our kitchen cause it will cause a mess and well, especially, my father he loves to cook, he wants to cook but our mother says no directly because when he cooks when he prepares all of the things he tends to make the kitchen dirty and we have to clean it later on so no.

桑蒂：我從我們家的角度來回答。在我們家男性下廚並不普遍，因爲讓他們做飯會弄得一片狼籍，我爸爸喜歡做飯，他想做飯，可是我媽媽會直接拒絕他，因爲他在準備做飯時會把廚房弄得很髒，然後我們還要進行清理，所以媽媽不讓他做飯。

Lia: So that's the point of your family. What about in our country?

利婭：那是你家裏。那我們國家的情況呢?

Santi: I think maybe younger people, younger families use to do it but for the older couples, I think no. Right?

桑蒂：我認爲男性做飯在年輕一代和年輕家庭中比較普遍，不過在年齡較大的夫妻中間不常見。對吧?

Lia: Yes, that's right.

利婭：對，沒錯。

　　Is it common to have a housekeeper where you live? 在你生活的地方請管家普遍嗎?

Santi: Hello, my name is Santi.

桑蒂：大家好，我是桑蒂。

Lia: And I'm Lia.

利婭：我是利婭。

Santi: We're both from Indonesia. And today's question that I'd like to ask you is ... Is it common to have a house keeper in Indonesia?

桑蒂：我們都來自印度尼西亞。今天要討論的問題是，在印尼請管家普遍嗎?

Lia: Yes, it is common to have a housekeeper in Indonesia because, especially, in big cities like Jakarta when both parents are working so they need someone to take care of the household chores. They need someone to take care of the children to prepare them a meal, or to help them actually so it is common.

利婭：在印尼請管家很普遍，尤其是像雅加達這樣的大城市，父母都要工作時，需要請人來處理家務。他們需要請人來照顧孩子，給孩子準備飯，或是幫助他們，所以非常普遍。

Santi: Yes, and it's convenient, really convenient because they can do all the cooking, all the cleaning and all we have to do is ask them politely.

桑蒂：對，而且這樣做很方便，因爲做飯、打掃等工作全由管家負責，我們只要禮貌地請他們做事就可以了。

Lia: Yes, that's very important.
