Dear Mr. Seaton,

Thank you very much for taking me with you on that splendid outing toLondon. It was the first time that I had seen the Tower or any of the otherfamous sights. If I'd gone alone, I couldn't have seen nearly as much, because Iwouldn't have known my way about.

The weather was splendid on that day, which I thought was rare. I stillremember some people told me that in Britain there was weather and no ng the same day, it might snow in the morning, rain at noon, shine in theafternoon and be windy before the night falls. So I think I was lucky.

I think the river trip was the best thing of all. London really came alivefor me as we saw it from the Thames during that wonderful journey down toGreenwich. It was all tremendously exciting - a day that I shall neverforget.

Thank you for giving me such a great birthday treat.

Yours sincerely,

Linda Chen

Dear Editor-in-Chief,

Congratulations on the 5th anniversary of Global Mirror!

I’m a regular reader of your newspaper. I like it so much that I hardlymiss any copy.

There are many advantages of Global Mirror. Firstly, Global Mirror coversboth national and international news. By simply turning the pages, I can knowall important things that have happened both home and abroad. Besides, thesuccess stories of world-famous people are also attractive to me, which help melearn a lot from them. In a word, thanks to Global Mirror, we are well-informedand keep up with the changing world.

As a young student, I wish that I can be a master of English efore, I suggest that Global Mirror provide articles about English learningfor us.

Finally, I hope that Global Mirror will become more and more popular. Thankyou for your time!

Sincerely yours,

Li Hua

Dear Tom,

How is it going these days? I keep wondering how you feel about your schoollife in Beijing. Have you got used to the life in China? Are you enjoying yourlife? I hope you are.

Let me tell you a piece of good news: I’m going to take part in an Englishspeech contest of middle school students in July in the coming summer I’m busy preparing for it. But now I have some difficulty in collectinguseful information and using proper English word to express my des, I really want to improve my spoken English, especially thepronunciation and intonation(語調). Of course, as a native English speaker, youcan give me some suggestions.

In addition, I’m going to visit you after the contest. I’m sure we willhave a wonderful time together in Beijing! I can hardly wait to see you! I amlooking forward to your early reply.

Dear Mr. Wang,

Thank you for taking the time to write your wonderful letter in support ofMCEA (Maywood Chinese Education Association). Your letter clearly articulatesall the major reasons children in Maywood will benefit from studying the Chineselanguage as part of their elementary school education. It provides invaluablesupport that will help making bilingual Chinese education a reality in Maywoodpublic schools.

Although MCEA would like to see Palo Alto public schools implement thefirst bilingual Chinese kindergarten class in September of 2006, we have learnedthat the school district must take the time to understand how a new program willaffect existing educational offerings, and to validate community rtheless, MCEA, with more than 70 members, will continue to actively promotebilingual Chinese education in the Palo Alto public schools and will keep youapprised of the progress we make.

Thanks again for sending a letter in support of MCEA. We' will continue todo all we can to realize this program both for families of Chinese descent andthose with a general interest in participating in the growing economic power ofChina.

Yours sincerely,

George Chen

Dear Sue,

I’m Li Hua, one of your students in China. It’s almost a month since youleft us. We all miss you and are very grateful for what you did for us.

We are busy as usual. We had an English speech contest the other day. I wonthe first prize! This again reminds me of all your kind help. Do you stillremember the trees we planted together on the hill behind the school? Yesterday,we went there and watered them. The tree you planted yourself is growing well, and the whole class decided to name it Sue Wood. Will you come back to see SueWood?

How is everything with you lately? We hope to know more about you and yourAmerican students. Hope to keep in close touch.

All the best.

Yours,

Li Hua
