英國米字旗的由來

你知道嗎?英國的四個地區英格蘭、蘇格蘭、威爾士以及北愛爾蘭都有各自的旗幟。現在廣泛使用的英國國旗又稱作“the Union Jack”或者“the Union Flag”，由深藍底色和紅、白色“米”字組成。那麼，你知道英國米字旗的由來嗎？

英國國旗產生於1801年，是由原英格蘭的白地紅色正十旗(代表英格蘭守護神聖喬治)、蘇格蘭的藍地白色交叉十字旗(代表蘇格蘭守護神聖安德魯)和愛爾蘭的白地紅色交叉十字旗(代表愛爾蘭守護神聖帕特里克)重疊而成。

按照順序，首先是蘇格蘭旗(St Andrews’s Cross)和英格蘭的旗(St George’s Cross)組合在一起，然後愛爾蘭王國的旗幟(St Patrick’s Cross)也被疊加了上來，最後形成的了現在的樣子。

Saint Andrew's(聖安德魯)Cross是蘇格蘭的國旗，象徵着蘇格蘭國民的忠誠。聖安德魯是蘇格蘭的守護者，傳說他就是被釘在X型的十字架上，所以知道爲什麼旗子上是個白色X型的十字啦!

The Union Flag has been used in a variety of forms since the proclamation by Orders in Council (樞密令) 1606, when the Flag of Scotland and the Flag of England were first merged to symbolize the Union of the Crowns. (The Union of the Crowns having occurred in 1603).

In Scotland, and in particular on Scottish vessels at sea, historical evidence suggests that a separate design of Union Flag was flown to that used in England. However, following the Acts of Union 《合併法令》of 1707, which United the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England to become the Kingdom of Great Britain , the 'English' version of the Union Flag was adopted as the official Flag of Great Britain.

From 1801, in order to symbolise the union of the Kingdom of Great Britain with the Kingdom of Ireland, a new design which included the St Patrick's Cross was adopted for the flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The Flag of the United Kingdom, having remainedunchanged following the partition of Ireland in 1921 and creation of the Irish Free State and Northern Ireland, continues to be used as the flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

1606年，詹姆斯一世統一英格蘭和蘇格蘭時，將這兩面旗幟圖案重疊起來，作爲大不列顛的國旗。英國國旗的歷史最早可追溯到1606年。1603年，當時英格蘭和蘇格蘭擁有了同一位國王，在英格蘭的名叫詹姆士一世，在蘇格蘭的名叫詹姆士六世。

1606年4月12日製定的國旗，是由英格蘭的聖喬治十字旗和蘇格蘭的聖安德魯旗交叉合併而成，但和現在的有點不一樣，沒有紅色的斜槓(聖帕特里克十字)。

愛爾蘭的聖帕特里克的白地紅色“x"型十字旗，最早是愛爾蘭菲茨諾德家族的旗幟;1801年，愛爾蘭與大不列顛聯合組成王國後，這面旗幟又與大不列顛國旗重疊，最後形成了大不列顛及北愛爾蘭聯合王國的這面構圖奇特的“米字旗”。
