澳大利亞總理宣佈正式廢除457簽證

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull last Tuesday abolished a temporary work visa popular with foreigners, the 457 visa, replacing it with a new program with a shorter skills shortage list and a tougher English language requirement.

澳大利亞總理馬爾科姆·特恩布爾上週二廢止了廣受外國人歡迎的臨時工作簽證--457簽證，代之以新的簽證項目。新的簽證項目削減了緊缺工種的清單，且提高了對申請者英語能力的要求。

"There will be a short-term skills visa for two years and it can only be renewed once. And then the person holding it has to go back to their home country," Turnbull said, repeating the "Australian jobs for Australians" rhetoric 16 times.

特恩布爾稱：“將會有兩年期的熟練技能勞工簽證，只能換髮一次。之後這類簽證的持有者必須回到祖國”，並將“澳洲就業機會歸澳洲人”的辭令重複了16次。

The 457 visa was introduced in the 1990s to expedite the entry of business professionals and highly skilled migrants but over time it was opened up to include a broad suite of workers.

457簽證於20世紀90年代引入，以此來加快商務人士和高技能移民的引進，但是隨着時間的推移，這一標準擴大到了普通的工人。

Another 4-year visa will have stricter eligibility criteria.

另一種4年期的簽證申領標準將更加嚴格。

The changes are likely to hurt small businesses and Australian tech start-ups, industry officials said.

行業官員表示，這些變動可能會對小型企業和澳洲科技初創企業構成不利影響。

However, "this is just a change of name," said Shamim Ahmed, a Sydney-based migration agent. "They cannot really abolish this visa, because it is demanded by employers."
