甘肅鄉村女教師張蘭萍 拄雙柺堅守講臺33載
Zhang Lanping has been teaching for 33 years now, but what makes her special is her pair of crutches.
張蘭萍現在已經教書33年了，但是讓她顯得特殊的是她那對柺杖。The courageous teacher from Gansu province was afflicted by poliomyelitis, an infectious disease caused by poliovirus, when she was only one-year-old.
這名勇敢的老師來自甘肅省，在僅一歲的時候，她就受到了小兒麻痹症的折磨，這是一種由脊髓灰質炎病毒造成的傳染病。Zhang was not able to fully recover and therefore has to use crutches for the rest of her life.
張老師沒能痊癒，因此，她不得不在餘生拄着柺杖。
This condition, however, has not diminished Zhang's spirit. As a student, Zhang devoted herself to acquiring knowledge, which she believes would make her a successful teacher.
但是，這並未削弱張老師的精神。在還是學生的時候，張老師就全身心地學習知識，她相信這能使她成爲一名成功的教師。
After graduation, Zhang applied as a college teacher but she was turned down because of her physical disability.
畢業後，張老師申請成爲一名大學老師，但是由於身體殘疾，她被拒絕了。Zhang did not give up and was finally accepted as a primary school teacher in her hometown in Gansu province, which then experienced a shortage of teachers.
不過張老師並未放棄，最後她被甘肅省自己的家鄉--當時教師資源短缺，錄用爲小學老師。For able-bodied people, it takes only six minutes to reach school, but Zhang has to spend one hour from home to her work place using crutches.
對於體格健全的人而言，去學校只需六分鐘，但是張老師拄着柺杖從家裏到上班地點要花上一個小時。In 1997, Zhang spent 1,000 RMB ($148) from her savings to put up a reading corner she named "Enlightenment." Zhang's efforts have not been in vain as the academic performance of her students is among the best in the district.
1997年，張老師從自己的存款中取出了1000元（148美元），搭建了一個她命名爲“啓迪”的閱讀角。而張老師的努力也沒有白費，她的學生的學習成績是該地區最優秀的。
