A funeral service provider in Zhejiang province has come under fire after calling on citizens to transform their deceased loved ones into jewelry.

浙江一殯葬服務提供部門最近火了，該公司呼籲市民把自己已故親人做成珠寶首飾。

"Ultra-hot temperatures can melt ashes, turning them into tiny crystallized beads. Due to different microelements contained in the ashes, the beads turn out in a variety of colors, making them a good material for creating jewelry," a Zhejiang funeral worker surnamed Chen told on March 9.

3月9日，浙江殯葬業工作人員陳先生在接受《現代金報》採訪時表示：“超高溫可以融化骨灰，將其變為細小的結晶珠。由於骨灰中含有的不同微量元素，這些珠子會有各種不同的顏色，是製作首飾很好的材料。”

According to Chen, the company will offer a free trial of their service to five local residents.

據陳先生表示，該部門將免費為5位當地居民提供試用服務。

Using ashes to make jewelry has become a trend in China in recent years.

近來年，用骨灰製作珠寶首飾已經成為了中國的一個趨勢。

According to Chen, a company in Shanghai has helped over 200 clients turn their family members' ashes into beads. As of press time, families from 21 provinces in China had ordered the service to preserve memories of their late relatives.

據陳先生表示，上海一家公司已經幫助200多位客戶把他們家庭成員的骨灰變成了晶體珠。截止發稿時為止，已經有來自21個省份的多個家庭預定了這項服務來寄託他們對已故親人的追思。

Chen noted that the service also saves land that would otherwise be occupied by corpses, and it costs less than a typical funeral ceremony.

陳先生還指出，這項服務也節省了墓地所需用地，比傳統葬禮的成本也要低得多。

But not everyone in China is willing to accept the innovative proposal--no surprise, given how rigidly most Chinese people adhere to traditional burial customs.

但是鑑於大多數中國人都堅持傳統的喪葬習俗，毫無疑問並不是所有中國人都願意接受這項創新。

The hashtag "TurnYourLovedOnesIntoNecklaces" has garnered over 310,000 page views on Sina Weibo since it was posted on March 10, with most comments criticizing the practice.

自從3月10日標籤“把你的愛人變成項鍊”被髮到新浪微博上之後，瀏覽量已經達到了31萬，大多數評論都持批評態度。

"It gives me goose bumps to even think about this horrible idea. I think the service is blasphemous to the dead and goes against Chinese traditions. Chinese people believe that a proper burial is crucial for the deceased souls, as it allows them to finally rest in peace," one netizen wrote on Weibo.

一名網友在微博上寫道：“甚至光是想一想這個可怕的念頭，我就渾身起雞皮疙瘩。我認為這項服務是對死者的褻瀆，也違背了中國的傳統。中國人認為對於死者靈魂來說，一場妥當的葬禮非常重要的，因為這樣才能讓逝者安息。”

But others hold a different opinion, noting that the new service is practically a necessity considering the skyrocketing cost of land in China.

但是其他人卻持不同意見，指出考慮到中國土地成本的暴漲，這項新服務是很有必要的。

"I think the idea of turning ashes into jewelry is environmentally friendly. We should leave the land for the living, not the dead," another netizen wrote.
