十二生肖與本命年的英語説法
用十二生肖紀年，在我國至少從南北朝時期就開始了。儘管不能確定十二生肖的確切來歷，但因為它的通俗、方便又具趣味性，所以一直沿用至今，成為古人留給我們的一種仍有實用價值的寶貴遺產。
那麼如何用英語來表達自己“屬……”呢？首先還是把十二生肖的英語梳理一遍：
鼠 Rat (/Mouse)
牛 Ox
虎 Tiger
兔 Rabbit (/Hare)
龍 Dragon
蛇 Snake
馬 Horse
羊 Goat (/Ram/Sheep)
猴 Monkey
雞 Rooster
狗 Dog
豬 Boar (/Pig)
如果要説“我屬狗”，那就是：
I was born in the Year of the Dog.
I was born under the Year of the Dog.
介詞用in或under都可以。
正因為有生肖紀年的習俗，於是在我們這裏有了“本命年”的概念。在英語裏，“本命年” 的地道説法是year of fate或者animal year，此外也可以看到把“本命年”翻譯為birth year和big year的。
所以“今年是我的本命年”用英語來説就是:
This year is my year of fate.
This year is my animal year.
This year is my birth year.
This year is my big year.
