習語：a nine day's wonder

講解：wonder作爲名詞，意指“奇蹟”或“奇觀”。A nine day's wonder的字面意思是“一個只持續了九天的奇蹟”，比喻“轟動一時即被遺忘的人或物”。

迷你對話：

A :John seems to be in high cotton. He may well become a big shot.

John走紅起來了，他有可能成爲個大人物。

B :I bet my button dollar that he won't. He is no more than a nine day's wonder.

我敢打賭他成不了大人物，他只不過是曇花一現而已。

A :What is your idea？

B :Many people like him get a flying start but soon disappear.

4.a flying start：開門紅，順利的開始

He's got off to a flying start in his new job.

他興致勃勃地開始他的新工作。

Our holiday got off to a flying start because the weather was good and the trains were on time.

我們度假一開始就大吉大利，天氣很好，火車也都準點。
