1. 解釋
Be back to square one的字面意思是“回到方塊一”，比喻爲“失敗後回到起點，前功盡棄而一切重新開始”。它與棋盤遊戲有關，square在這裏是指“棋盤上的每一格”。無論玩什麼棋，你都得從棋盤上的第一個方格跳起，如果一局中有人犯規，這盤棋就得毀掉而重新再來。

I see your point but I'm not sure I agree with you.

Ps 3：表示“某事情成功了”，可以說：Something works. Work在這裏是不起作用的意思。某事物沒有”發揮出其作用”，那也就是“成功”了的意思。
