據《京華時報》報道，中國首都北京市副市長陳剛表示，北京將對建築尺度、風格、色彩、材料等基本方面進行必要的規定。

【講解】

building ordinances是建築條例。
針對近幾年越來越多的“怪建築（weird buildings）”，陳剛表示，一定要充分發揮城市設計（urban design）的指導作用（play a guiding role），進一步細化建築設計的規範要求（specify the standards of buildings），提高建築設計水平（improve their design level）。
下一步要注重城市公共空間的設計（pay attention to the design of public areas），爲城市風貌（cityscape）和人居環境創造適合居住的場所（habitable spaces）。明確城市設計分區管理的原則（the principle of partition management），使北京既保持歷史文化名城（historical city）的整體風貌，又體現國際城市（international city）的當代精神（modern spirit）和地域特色（local characteristics）。
北京在2000年曾發通知，規定建築外觀（exteriors）顏色的基色調（primary hue）以灰色調（gray）爲主，以創造穩重、大氣、素雅、和諧的城市環境（urban environment）。
業內人士（insider）表示，目前有越來越多的建築過於強調外觀（overemphasize appearance）而忽略了使用功能（ignore function），北京市政府對建築設計進行規範要求是好事，但同時他們擔心新規定會束縛建築師的藝術想象力（stifle the artistic imagination of architects）。
